IIH 436 Injector Leak

The #3 injector is leaking somewhere below the retaining clip and is pooling on the outside of the head on the 1480. It isn't coming from neither the return line or high pressure line. I removed and had the injectors rebuilt approx six years ago and probably have around 200 hrs on them. I do remember a copper compresson seal but not any other seals. Suspect the nozzle body has cracked or the nozzle assembly wasn't sufficiently tightened and blew an internal O-ring. Is this a typical problem and are my suspicions accurate? Last time I drained the anti-freeze, but didn't encounter any problems with the adapter sleeve coming out, so are considering not draining it this time since it hasn't been many hours. Also did use some antiseize when reinstalling after the rebuild. Appreciate any suggestions before we tear into her, except to get rid of it and buy a JD.

If the injector is leaking internally and not from the external fittings there are no seals to replace to correct the problem. The surface finish between the nozzle assembly, body, and spacer all have to have a smooth enough finish that they will not leak under the nearly 4000 PSI the injectors operate.

If it is leaking antifreeze from around the injector then you will need to replace the nozzle in the head.

I have a 1066 with a dt414 in it that was doing the same thing. Replaced the injector with a brand new one and put a new copper seal in it, and it still did it. Turns out the injector cup was cracked on the very bottom. It wasn't letting anti-freeze out but it was pushing the fuel back up to the top of the injector and pooling. Replaced the injector cup and it hasn't leaked since. I do know you have to drain the anti-freeze if you pull the cup out, because it is surrounded by antifreeze. I think the engine is of similer design. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the information. Hope this isn't my problem, but will soon find out. Removed the injector and took it to the dealer for a pressure test. The service manager told me the nozzle body is threaded and splits at the groove in the middle. Apparently they can become loose. He has seen them leak in this area. If it leaks and he can't get it tightened then I'll buy a new one. However if it doesn't leak on the test stand, I'll need to look at the cup.
