Lower unit drawbar holes

One of the bolt holes in my lower unit that holds the drawbar on is stripped out. these holes look tappered being larger on the inside and narrowing down as the bolt is threaded in. Do they take special studs or bolts? If tappered, would you tap it with a pipe thread? What is the correct way to fix this problem? For now, I just have a smaller bolt all the way through with a nut on the end. I havent tried getting a longer bolt yet, that will be the next thing I try.

Those hole arent tapered just worn from either the wrong size bolt used or never tightened correct Using a long one like you did then a nut will get you by. Sometime you will need to drill for the next larger size and retap threads. I find the problem a lot working with the As and Bs.

(quoted from post at 03:33:15 04/06/10) Im sorry. I have a 1955 Super A.
Are you sure you don't have something different?
The Super A drawbar is held by studs into blind holes. Unclear to me how one would put a smaller bolt clear through with a nut.
