Can anyone tell me how many Farmall Super MTA"s were made? Also, were any of these offered with a factory 2 point hitch, or was after-market the only way to get one?
Thanks

My book says 26,924 Super MTAs were made.

The 2-point Fast Hitch was strictly an IH product, there was no after-market.

With respect, No SMTAs had fast hitches from the factory. There were kits sold by dealerships to retro fit FH on tractors both to farmers, and to be installed at at a dealership. I am quite sure on this. Jim

I stand corrected. Because they can accept a fasthitch, I assumed they could be ordered from the factory with the fasthitch already installed.

Jim,

It would be nice to see a brochure on this. No, I am not doubting you but IH must have published and distributed something.

One has to wonder if they went to the trouble to sell the 400 Fast Hitch or waited until the easier to adapt 450-560 hitch. And was the later design influenced by a potential SMTA retrofit market?

I'd like to see what they did with the hydraulics and the Teledepth.

Nope. The first Fast Hitch did not reach dealers until 1955, after MTA production had ended.

That said, it was the SECOND GENERATION Fast Hitch that was retrofitted to the MTA. The MTA did not have the proper deck lid for the 400's Fast Hitch. The 450's Fast Hitch did not need a special deck lid, and only used one hydraulic remote, so that's the one that was installed on the MTA.

mkirsch,

So you are saying that no "Z" coded 400s had the fast hitch installed at the factory? I don't think that is true. Perhaps it depends on whether you are referring to model year or calender year.

I own two SMTAs with the early fast hitch and have seen others. They all appear to have farmer installed adaptations for mounting the rock shaft. Can't see any reason that IH wouldn't have done the same thing but have never seen one.

As ALWAYS...You guys are GREAT! Thanks for the information. It"s been a long time since I"ve been on here, really good to see a lot of the same group on here, and some new ones too.
