Saw tooth speed control question

Speed control lever wasn't holding a couple summers ago, so I removed, built up with weld and reshaped profile to like new. Now it's not holding again. I don't like the looks of the friction disc replacement and not happy with a new aftermarket replacement lever I purchased a couple years ago (did not fit cover and longer in length). Any suggestions? Will the notched one work?

Chuck, You didn't mention the model of your tractor but I have a 1951 H which had a M&W friction disc control when I got the tractor and I just didn't like the looks of it. Took it off and put on a sawtooth one I already had and it would not hold at the higher engine settings. I replaced it with the square notch type and all functional and appearance problems are gone - it works great, Hal.

Sorry, I forgot to mention it's for my Farmall H.
My saw-tooth doesn't hold at higher engine speeds as well. So I guess now it means looking for the notched/square tooth design.... Thanks

Build up the lever with hard surfacing rod. It will be hard to grind into proper shape. It will last much longer but over time you will have to do it again.
