Actual 1980 retail prices

Hi, I am giving a speech later this month at the Minnesota Machinery Museum, which celebrates its 30th anniversary. To use in the speech, I am trying to find retail farm implement prices from 1980 -- in other words, what did a new IH tractor or other equipment sell for in 1980? Thanks!

I probably have several books if I get the time to find them--no I'm not kidding, as I have a mountian of old books. I dread trying to find them, but if all else fails, I may be able to help you out.

In 1980,I bought a new JD 4040 tractor for just under $30,000.had Sound Gard,wide,15.5 38,no duals or wts.Hope this helps

Here is a few models. ih 986 31070 dollars, ih 686 19650, 886 27500, 784 21165, 1486 38405 thats what my book says fob factory.

That $38405 for the 1486 is about what I paid for a 1980 S1954 tandem axle, 466 engine, and 13 speed RR. Hard to believe it is an antique already. I would have thought the tractor would be cheaper.
