560 stuck in gear

The high low on the ta still works. Push the clutch in I can start it....the gear shifter in the neutral position...let the clutch out and she goes....feels like it's stuck in road gear. Push the clutch in and shift into another gear...try to take off and it dies like it may be getting stuck in between gears? I'm hoping this is as simple as a linkage pin?? Can I get to the shifter in the floor without cracking the tractor?

The three bolts around the lever tower will remove the lever. The tractor is stuck in 5th. with the clutch down, TA back, use a large screw driver to pull the left most shift rail (down the hole with a good light) back to alignment with the rest of them.
Welding up the tip of the shifter to resize it should be the cure. Jim

Thanks Jim...Spot on!! The end of the shaft has a little wear to it....so I didn"t weld on it yet.....ran it through the gears and it didn"t slip out again YET...=)...I"m sure it will sooner or later and than I will have to do it.

Get in the habit of making your shifts very deliberate and SQUARE. The biggest cause of getting stuck in two gears is shifting "diagonally" with a slightly worn shifter nub.

A couple of stern reprimands, and I think a rock heaved at my head, got me into the habit many many years ago :)

You are right =(....lol...IT WAS pilot error....that's exactly what I was doing...(side shifting)....I didn't realize just how square the setup is. On the bright side...if I'm going to make first timer mistakes....that's the one I want to make...though I won't make it again for fear of flying rocks from afar ;)

Just repaired this same problem on my 560. Took 15 minutes. Well worth the time to fix it as it will happen again! Fifth gear is usually the one it gets stuck in because the travel on shift rails is less leaving a bigger hole for shifter tang to slip out of.

There are far more linkage components in that trans, (and outside it as well)
The linkage must be correct and small ball joints and pivot points wear free for it to begin to operate. Roll pins and worn pin holes can also be the problem. Start with the external issues, under the sheet metal, and proceed inward and down. A worst case is broken or damaged forks or internal linkage, but it happens. The Tractor Vet may ad to this to explain the internal issues. Jim

Does anyone have either pictures of a "new" shifter (before it's worn) or at least the specs or dimensions? Got the new shop now, and the mig...like to build up that shifter, but not sure what it should like when done.

Any help?
