Farmall M's in train accident!

Just posted a picture in stuck, & troubled, & by the way the photo is from the "Mahlon Eberhard Collection". If You look close at the left at least one Farmall was shoved off the flat car, & the tire is leaning way over at an angle!

Ash Grove, IN. June 3rd, 1947. 3 brand new 'Monon' F-3A diesel locomotives collided head - on with 3 other brand new F-3A's; also 'Monon' north of Lafayette, IN. One train hauling coal, & the other freight. I assume the picture is probalby the northbound train out of Louisville, & hauling 'Louisville M's'. Northbound train was moving at 40mph, SB at 35mph. The northbound train ASSUMED!!! the southbound cleared the main track, & was off to the side. Not so! The SB train failed to read 3 different warning lights, & the only survivor said he as they rounded a curve they witnessed an increasingly glaring headlight! If You want more pictures go to 'Bygone places of the Monon' click onto the 'First subdivision;, & scroll down to 'Ash Grove'

Yup, ya better be reading those warning lights! Whether you're driving a tractor, vehicle, operating a train or flying, have a safe and enjoyable Easter holiday weekend.

Can't remember the year, but a train [Rock Island] derailed in Muscatine, IA on the river front. Had 2 flat cars with 806's chained down leaning at a precarious angle. The cars never did upset & were re-railed to be delivered to their destination---presumably a little late.
We used to see Farmalls on the Rock Island regularly. The main line West went along Hwy.6 & since the factory was in Rock Island, most of the tractors headed West were shipped on rail at that time.

Did they put the wheels and tires on backwards to make them narrower for transport, then switch them upon destination arrival?

Yes, that was how all of the Ms were delivered to the dealers.
