I'm helping a friend on an H that he got when he bought some land. we never had it running. the previous owner replaced the rear half of tractor when the rear end went out and then he started going through clutches. come to find out he put a Super H rear half on a regular H front. we also found out the super H has a different size (length) clutch shaft. we were thinking of finding a super H shaft to see if that works. does anyone have any ideas or is there anything else we might need to find? clutch was out when we got it

If the center of the Coupling on the clutch shaft is assembled to the yolks backwards, it shortens the shaft causing dramatic noise and grief with clutches. This could be the issue. Jim

Putting a Super H back half on an H front half is not a "normal" thing to do so odds are there won't be any well-known tricks or gotchas.

"Going through clutches..." We need more information. How are the clutches failing? Without that information there is no way to even guess at what the problem is.

Clutches could fail quickly due to a bad flywheel surface.

Clutches could fail quickly due to incorrect adjustment.

Clutches could fail quickly due to abuse.

Clutches could fail quickly due to poor installation practices, not replacing parts that need replacing.

There are several reasons that have nothing to do with the "mismatched" tractor components that could explain why the clutches failed.

Before you go down the "wrong shaft" theory, make sure. Unbolt the coupler from underneath and see what that shaft is doing.
