H pilot bearing

What you do is find a piece of steel rod or cut a bolt after the threads so you have a round smooth shaft. Make sure it will slide in the pilot bearing center but still be real close to the diameter. Pump it full of grease till it fills up the center and under the bearing. Take the pin or rod and center it in the hole. Take a hammer and pound it in fast and hard. The quick pressure on the grease will force the bearing out. The grease wont want to compress, and will transmit the force to the bearing. You may have to pump more grease in and hammer again. Hope this helps. Good luck -Corey.

Works every time!
A hardwood dowel rod will also work and can be sanded to a tiny oversize fit then forced in. Jim

Can you do this with the flywheel attached to the engine? Or can the flywheel be taken out through the belly of the tractor? It seems if it is attached to the engine you could not drive it out. Thanks

Is the pilot bearing bad?

You know you can grease it with the tractor fully assembled. I've never had a bad one and don't replace them "just for fun".

jim, a pilot bearing puller works real well too

I own 3 different patterns of those, some European vehicles have tiny pilot holes.
I havemachined metal rods to "grease out" pilot bushings and had it work well. Thanks for reading. Jim
