Hi
What is the difference between a M and W 9 speed and a HEISLER 9 SPEED?
I am looking at two H’s one has one the other has the other
What should I check?
Thanks

Brad

One is a rod and link control design and the other is a push pull cable. Internally they are similar, and I have heard no differences in quality or service. The cable might be a tiny bit more troublesome if not maintained, than the linkage, but the overall tractor condition would be way more important to me than the differences between the two 9speeds. I am of the understanding that the M&W gives an overdrive and the Heisler gives an underdrive in first through fourth gears. Once again, this is what I"ve been told, but have no personal experience with the Heisler.

I have a '44 H with the Heisler. It was installed in 1950, and has never had a problem since. However, as Jim said, base your decision on the condition of the rest of the tractor, and not on whether Heisler or MW.

There would be a dramatic demand for an underdrive, as a common issue with tractors is that they don't go slow enough when the engine is running in its power curve to use with some implements.
I'm suer they are both between 4th-5th speeds. Jim
