The colors are red [white or yellow] and blue. The hitch depends on horse drawn or tractor drawn.I am rebuilding a #7 and a#9. I bought a book on ebay called "The horse drawn mower book" this book goes into great detail on how to rebuild, disassemble, colors, and timming and adjustment of the mower there are hundreds of pictures and parts diagrams also. The book is mainly about Mccormick mowers.

not sure if it was for tractor or horsess but im gona use it with a tractor so how dose the hitch need to be built? and one last question what colors go where?

Thanks alot im glad i finaly found some info. ill get a picture when im done restoring it.

The frame is ih red the cutter bar is blue and the wheels are ih white or yellow. I like the ih white better. The tractor hitch is just the horse tounge sawed off about 3 to 4 feet in front of sickle bar then bolt your two pieces of flat steel to the end of tounge to put the hitch pin in. The horse tounge is 15' long as it sits in the frame back to the axle. I had the Amish saw a tounge out of Ash for $20, the tounge is 5" wide where it mounts in the frame so a 4"x4" won't work. I have seen them made of pipe but wood is better for the vibration of the mower.
