w-4 carburetor = oop's

i had to take my carb apart on my w-4 as the float had a hole in it. while i had it apart i realized that the carb was absolutly filthy. with what looks like sand setting in the bottom, almost 1/4" thick. so i decided that i would take it all apart and give it a good cleaning. all was going well until i tried to remove the idle jet. the only thing i managed to remove was the small chunck of metal on the side of the screwdriver slot. then while scrapping the rest of the carb down i was cleaning out from underneath the high speed adjustment screw and realize that there's all kinds of crap coming out from there. after a little research i figure out that it's a form of "packing". so here i am scratching my head. how do i go about getting that dang idle jet out, and the rest of the packing. i'm looking to buy the full rebuild kit off from this site, but can't tell if these two parts come in the kit. any insight on my dilemna would be much appreciated. i was also thinking about picking up a can of the carburetor cleaning acid that comes in the gallon cans. what's everyones opinion on this stuff, good or bad?

The only way to get that idle metering jet out now is to drill it out, and then you'll need to retap the threads. #40 drill bit and a #4-40 tap. Do not use your electric drill. Do it by hand.

Not very many rebuild kits have all the pieces you need, I don't know if YTs kits contain them or not. If you want to have the carb professionally rebuilt, send me an email.

I drilled one out, bought a replacement jet at the local IH dealer($25 or so), went to a gunsmith to determine the correct thread tap size, bought a tap (#5-40), re-threaded the hole and all was well again.
Take your time and use progressively larger drill bits to remove the old material.
I would suggest getting the new jet first to have a size reference.

I know Case-IH is overpriced on a few items, but $25 is a bit ridiculous for an idle metering jet that is already furnished in a rebuild kit that sells for $32.

Just bought a gallon of carb cleaner from O Riley and cleaned carb for Super H and it worked very well. Most kits don't have all the parts you might need but IH can still get most of what is needed.

thanks for the tips all. i am currently working on getting the jet drilled out (my fingers hurt  ). i've got a tap ordered from mcmaster-carr. now i need to get a overhaul kit. the only one i can find on this site say's it's for the h/w-4 but lists carb number 50981 DA, but my carb is a 50981 DC. will this kit work, if not do you guy's have any leads on one that will. if not i'll make a trip to the dealer. thanks for all of yer help.
