hey guy's i wanna put a set of headlights on my ih 300, it has a 6v system but i may one day switch to 12v. are there any considerations as far as what headlights i purchase so i can use the same ones when and if i switch to 12v? also any recomendations on who i should buy the headlights from????i'm not overly concerned with originality..thanks in advance fellas!!!

if you have the old ones on there now you should be able to just switch the headlamp bulb or the sealed beam--they come in both 6 and 12

If you are going to convert it to 12 volt, then put 12 volt lights on it. If you are going to leave it 6 volt then use 6 volt lights. You can run 12 volt lights with 6 volts but they will be very dim and 6 volt lights will burn out if used with 12 volts.

hey Kirk, can i used 6v lights and just replace with 12v bulbs if i ever do switch to a 12v system, the reason i ask is the darn light setups are like 100 bucks for 2 of them....thanks

Yes, those original style, flat-back sealed beam lights are kind of pricey. I would suggest that you make the decision right now to either leave the six volt system in place, or make the change-over to twelve volts BEFORE you buy the lights. Of course, there are generic 6 and 12 volt headlamps available that are priced much, much lower and function just as good, but would never be considered as "correct".
