Hello I just bought a farmall regular and would like to have a manual for it. Does anyone know where I could get one? Also I have saw some guys on here talking about the ol'timers trick to starting hand crank engines so they didnt get hurt does anyone know what they were? Thanks guys.

Books;Jen-sales;Binderbooks(these are the best) Starting;retard spark(lever up) push crank down 1/2 turn,or pull up 1/2 turn. doNOT go roundandround!also,doNOT wrap thumb around crank handle!

Thanks Delta. I have a friend coming over tomorrow that is good with mags I hope we can get some spark. But he is a JD fella and they have a flywheel not a crank so I thought I would ask. I am redy to hear the ol' girl run I have an old road grader I am gonna pull with it.

If the tractor has its original mag, it has a manual impulse coupling, you have to engage it before you crank and make sure it stays engaged as you crank.. if the engine fires and doesn't start it could disengage the impulse, and kick the snot outa you on the next pull. Never use down strokes to start them as it puts your head right in the crank path if it kicks backs, upstroke only. They start easy if your mag and carb are in good repair.

Yep like 36F30 said start at the bottom and crank up 1/2 stroke as you are far less likely to get injured, never ever go round and round and never start at top and go down thats how folks get hurt is they will sprain/snap your wrist and put a gash in your head or worse. Also it helps if you slowly turn it to right before the impulse will snap after you set it, than crank it up from there, so your are not wasting more energy than needed if it ends up being a stubbern starter.

Ok I messed with it today and couldnt get any fire out of the mag so I took some of it apart and cleaned contact points and other things inside it and put it back together and get very little spark at the points and it isnt consistent. Any ideas will be helpful. This is my first tractor with a crank and or mag so I am kinda shootin from the hip. Also what would you guys think a tractor like this is worth with fairly good paint and nice wheels and complete. It is a 29 model I did find that out today also. Thanks for the help. I just hope someday I can be as helpful to someone else like ya'll have been for me. Thanks again

The Mag is really important to a crank starter, the spark should be blue and jump about a quarter inch. if it doesn't change the condenser and dress the points. If it still doesn't have good spark the magnet could need remagnetized. Best to send it to someone like Nebraska Kirk for a rebuild, it will save hours of frustration and you'll be glad you did.

As for value, unless it's an oddball like a narrow tread, high altitude, low number etc.. they are not big money tractors, seems alot of collectors just don't like to crank these old girls. really nice ones can be had for 3 grand or so

I guess the condenser is in a place I didnt get to when I had it sort of tore apart. I gave 1600 for mine and it is fairly nice. I wouldnt call it show quality but its better than average I think. Thank you for your help.
