Hello,I just overhauled my 450,new sleeves pistons ring the works.I put it on the dyno and soon as the load comes on the blowby begins. When I say blowby I mean it looks like it's on fire.when the load is removed the blowby stops and it runs great. I tore it down and everything looks good. I honed the sleeves a little and put in a new set of rings. Now on the dyno not only do I have bad blowby but oil blows out the draft tube.Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure the rings ends arnt lined up on one cylinder? did you do a valve job also? did you use break in powder by chance? Ring end gap was right etc... just a few possible things i can think of

Hello Pat yes I checked the ring alingnment and that was good, My ring gap is 0.15. My 450 head was cracked it was a 8574 I replaced it with a 8060 and everything in it is new. I did not use any powder.

are you saying you tore it down after dynoing and honed it again with a new set of rings? are the rings crome plated, those are harder to seat. how long was it run on dyno?gas or deisel? get it to operating temp, even cover the rad and make it pull hard for a few hrs.could even give it a sniff of bonamy in the intake, like a table spoon full.something sure dont sound right here.are the rings installed properly and not upside down? i have seen smaller rings installed on a piston, example 33/4 rings on a 4" piston.but you say the end gap is .015 so thats ok.

I had it on the dyno for 4 hours. It runs perfect 125 lbs compression across the board. No blue smoke or anti freeze burning or anything like that just blowby.I tore it back down to check the rings they are installed and spaced correctly. The top ring is chrome the rest are cast.I had the factory heat gauge standing straight up with the rad covered. Oh it is a gas.I am beginning to wonder if it could be the 8060 head. I thought it would work on the 450 block but maybe not.Problem is the head should not have anything to do with blowby.

The 8060 head is not the problem, the rings are not seating. Did the cylinders hone up well, ie nice cross hatching?
