hood fastener question

I just bought the correct hood fasteners for my 300U. They are the type that have a square nut held be a cage. My question is how to make them fit into the holes. I already broke one trying.

if its a fold over nut, the fastener clips on to the sheet metal from the side and then slides over the hole.

You hook one side, then squeeze the cage and slip the other side through the hole. If that doesn't work then you didn't get the correct ones.

NOW you understand why the 300/350/400/450 were less popular than their predecessors. Those cage nuts were a PITA, and only got worse as the tractors got older.
