Cylinder sleeves

Hi guys. I'm really a Moline guy so I don't know a lot about sleeved engines. I think I may need to rebuilt the engine in my 450 LP and wonder if I can increase the bore by just installing different size sleeves. Also, will the original LP head handle domed pistons? Thanks, Dan

The sleeves that are in the 450 are largest that block will except without boring. Yes you can put in domed pistons, just make sure to get the right ones as to not hit the valves / top of the head.

Thanks, Andrew. I'm not sure I want to get into boring. Would there be enough power benefit from the domed pistons to offset the cost of the pistons? Dan

With a good pistons, that LP head, a little bit of ignition work, you should be able to get around 60hp
Unless you want more power for pulling i would think this will be enough for farming with the 450.

Thanks again Andrew. I plan on using it mostly for pulling and maybe a little parade and farm stuff. I have other tractors for farming. I just love this tractor and will probably drive it quite often. Besides what you already mentioned, what else could I do to make a good puller out of it?

Well, if your looking at pulling stone boat then i would say youll have plenty of power for up 10,500lbs class, thats if the TA is good. Outside of that you can do alittle cam work to get a few more foot pounds and HP. Most important thing that you have to think about more then power is the distribution of weights.

Andrew

Well that's plenty for me, Andrew. I just want be around 6500 - 8000lbs. I think I'll try it stock first then see where to go from there. The pop-up pistons are probably about as far as I want to go, if that. Thanks for your advice. Dan
