International ID-9

There were many options and deletes including but not limited to Foot throttle, Hand clutch, different tire/rim/wheel combinations, Axle combinations, and PTO driven attachments. Mu brother owns an I-9, and it hasvery few differences other than color from a W-9. Jim

ID-9 differences from a WD-9 depends a lot on how the ID-9 was spec"d when new. As Jim points out there were all manner of options/deletes for I/ID-9 axles, tires, fenders, brakes, throttle, clutch, lights, PTO, drawbar, etc.

However the one common difference on the few I-6 and -9 industrials I"ve seen is a much heavier front axle fitted with 20" wheels/tires.

Both the I and the W series had many different options. However, variations in the standard equipment include: foot accelerator standard on I series, transmission clutch brake standard on I series to help shifting on go, different gear ratios, different platform and fenders, different tire sizes and tread types, different front axle, pintel hitch standard on I series. Several options were available for the I series that were not available on the W's such as; hydraulic brakes, heavy duty front axles, spark arrestors, solid tires, various size tires, duals, and others. Standard W color was red, any other color cost extra. Standard I color was red or orange at no cost. Any other color cost extra. I'm not sure what year the standard industrial color changed from orange to yellow. It may have already been yellow by 1953.

The I series serial numbers are in the same series as the W numbers so there is no way to tell the number of I's built unless Guy has some numbers from the historical records.

The I-4, I-6 and I-9 series tractors had different gear ratios than the W-4, W-6 and W-9 series tractors. I also believe the arrangement of the gear selection order was also different. As the counter-shaft gear ratios were different the PTO ran faster than the 540 rpm of the W series. The brakes were often different and hydraulic brakes were an option.

Well I bought a ID-9 kinda sight un-seen all I have is a few pictures that he sent me, and a pretty good drive to go pick it up. I just wanted to make sure that I was was in fact buying a ID-9 not a WD-9 that tag shows it to be correct. I have seen many WD-9 tractors but never an industrial, in fact this will be my second yellow international, I have a restored AI as well. I mainly have john deere tractors but these yellow Farmall's (actually international) is always a conversation piece.

I haven't seen many Industrials, but the main thing you notice is the wheels and weights are different and they often have a pintle hook instead of a regular drawbar. It gives them an odd look.
