Need advice on Model A

I've been "Oliver" all my life so I need some help on a Model A. I've been watching for a Cub, but saw an A for sale yesterday. With no experience on Farmalls, but a good general knowledge of tractors, I need to know if $1,800 is a reasonable price.

The tractor has new tires all the way around, a good shade tree mechanic paint job (not buying to show)and starts with a touch of the starting lever. The engine was cold when I got there.

The tin is good, recent battery and all the lights are there and work.

The tractor doesn't have any hydrualics and I would be outfitting with a snow blade and and maybe a mower deck somewhere down the road.

What do you Farmalls guys think? I appreciate your thoughts.

You don't say where you are, so the price question is a little up in the air. Around here that would be a shade high, maybe a good asking price to start from for a Super A with the Touch Control, and in the running condition you describe. That said, the tires aren't anything to sneeze at, and might be worth a consideration from you if you plan to work the tractor.

Thanks Scotty -- I'm in Western Pennsylvania. I forgot to mention nice wheel weights all the way around. I was looking around on eBay and I think the price might be a little high with no blade or mower.

Appreciate your time and thoughts.

Weights always add some value...front weights seem to be a little more dear. Still think that is a lot of money for a tractor with no hydraulics. I didn't give that for my running SAV a few months back but the paint is suffering a little on that one and it has no weights. You should look it over really closely to see what has been done. Harnesses, tires, paint, weights all add to the value as they are pricey to replace. Does it charge? Gennys can be rebuilt but it will cost a little. Does it have a real harness or wires running every which way? ANY missing or damaged sheet metal, battery boxes, etc? Lights present and do they work? You would be surprised at what a light switch will cost if you want something original. I would also compare the serial number to the castings and see how original it is. Maybe that is worth something to you or the next guy. Just some thoughts. You can buy a $1200 A but might just have to put a bunch more into it.

Thanks Dave. The wiring is original. The tin is all there and in general good shape. It's a nice little tractor but the more I read and study about it, the more I think I'll hold off and watch for something else. It's probably worth $1,800 to somebody and I don't begrudge the man for his asking price. I would want to use it for plowing the snow from the driveway and maybe some mowing. I'd have to buy a plow and a mower so maybe I'll just keep watching. You know how you get that impulse to buy. Thanks for the advice.
