Converting clamp on duals to rims for M

Bought a set of tires yesterday that came on a set of clamp on duals. I was wondering if anyone has ever converted a set of clamp on duals to use on a Farmall M with the stock cast wheels? It looks like I could cut off the flat extension and maybe weld in some tabs to bolt to the wheels? Any advice, recommendations, pictures, etc would be very helpful. I have tried to post a few pics of the rims. Thanks!

The "flat extension" will just come right off. Not cutting required, it is a "loose slip fit" ;) They made the rings changeable so you could change your dual spacing for the crop ie 30" vs 38" rows

Never screwed with them any other way. I don't think it would really be worth the time bc you can get decent used rims fairly reasonable. It might be worth it if you were looking to run a larger rim for tractor pulling bc 12-14" rims are not so easy to come by. I have been sort of looking for those for a couple years with no major success. At least not a price I am willing to pay.

Edit, see below.

Oops, did you mean that heavy thick ring below the spacer? That will need a hot wrench.

On the side, they would make pretty decent pulling tires.

The spacer may be tacked in place. It shouldn't be fully welded.

Those are double-bevel rims. Your M requires drop-center rims, but I figure you've realized that by now. These new rims won't mount on the M wheels.

Your tab idea may work, but I don't think it's ever been done. I would weld on U-shaped tabs like you see on the larger tractors to maximize contact area between the tabs and rim.

You will need to remove the tires and tubes from the rims to weld, or you will pop the tubes. So, unless the M's current rims are shot, you will be best off transferring the tires to the correct rims.

Thanks for the replies! I did not realize that the extension was just a slip fit but Im sure it won't "slip" out of the rim:) I am attempting to make these rims work as they are wider than the stock ones on the tractor now. Thanks for the help!

Another option would be to plasma cut the dual rims and plasma cut the M rims and weld the two/three pieces together to make a hybrid rim. I am not sure if it will work with two different kinds of rims. Only the tape measure will tell the truth. I know it will work with two of the same type rims. It is a ton easier than splitting a rim in half and rolling a piece of steel for the opening and rewelding. It is pretty much the same price to widen rims using either method. One you pay for more labor and one you pay for more parts. I personally feel that taking two halves and welding them together looks better than rolling a spacer for the middle.

ANYHOW, I think you should just sell the dual rims and sell the stock rims and buy a set of wide rims. I would try and get you kicked out of a pull for running cobbled together wide rims anyhow. You better at least make them look stock so you can TRY and not get DQed for running wide rims.

Btw, If you are near SE WI/NE IL I am looking for 12" "M" rims. No, that is not why I said you should sell both sets and use the money for new rims...

True, you could cut the "drop center" out of the M rim and weld it into the double-bevels... It would be some pretty fancy cutting and welding work.

IMHO it would be easier to widen the drop-center rims by splitting them and adding a band to one side of the center or the other.
