Another newbie ? on manuals

Just got the manual for my 560 today. Read it cover to cover. Good basic information, but I would like a bit more such as tranny filter, purging the hyraulics, brake and clutch adjustment..etc. Do I need the complete repair manual (476 pages) listed on here or can I get by with the IT shop manual? (96 pages)

Thanks
Pete

More pages mean more money;more pages mean more information;some times more is better, only you can decide what is right for you.i'd go with the bigger book, parts book,too............a good set of books is often the cheapest accessory you can buy for your'new' tractor.Steve

Thanks Steve. I understand what you"re saying, but I"m not going to be doing a rebuild or spliting the tractor. I"ll take it to the pro"s for something like that. I just want the basic repairs that a wrench turner can do, that will hopefully keep me from having to bring my "new" tractor to a pro because I neglected some basic maintenance. I guess I should be asking if the IT shop manual covers all of the basic maint a guy needs to keep his tractor in shape.

My IT manual doesn't cover basic maintenance issues at all. I think a user's or owner's manual is what you will need. (Attention, Tractor experts here: Please enlighten me if I'm wrong about this.)

Sometimes you can find an owner's manual online, too. I found one for my VAC on a very useful website but still decided to purchase a hard copy for easier use in the barn, next to the tractor.

Correction: Instead of my Case VAC, I meant my Farmall H. They sit together in the shed and I confuse them sometimes. Makes 'em really upset when I do that. Can't blame them!

Thanks Harold. I have the owners manual. It covers spark plug gap, fliuid drains and checks, tire pressure. Very basic stuff. No clutch adjustment, or air purging etc. There are like 15 or 16 different manuals for the 460-560. Manuals for the clutch, for the tranny, the final drive, the pto. I just need one basic cover all if there is one to be found.

There is also a service manual for most machines that you did not mention. It complements the owners manual and was put out by IH. You can get them from most places you would get the owners manual.

The service manual comes as several short volumes known as Blue Ribbon Service manuals, as you indicated. These are available as a set from Binder Books. The engine has its own service manual than includes all engines, gas and diesel from the 221 (460 only) thru the 301. There is no single manual that covers everything under one title. IH stopped that after the letter series, for that size tractor, anyway. The I&T manual does a pretty good job of summarizing all of those. I use the I&T plus the IH manuals, and actually get better use of the I&T. Clutch adjustment is not in the Operators manual because it is a rather complex adjustment that includes the TA, but IH should have included it.

The 560 came with an operators manual and a preventive maintenance manual and it has all the clutch, throttle adjustments etc. You won't find that in the blue ribbon repair manuals.
