what size hydraulic pump to get??

homebuilt

i'm looking to mount a hydraulic pump off the front of my new to me w-4. i'm going to attach it to the front of the crankshaft for live power. i want to be able to run a power angle snow plow with it, without having to wait for the hydraulics. it would be nice to have one large enough to be able to run a woodsplitter also, but not necassary. any tips on what pump to get would be great. i'm not worried about having to do some modifications to the tractor to get it to fit as it has already been chopped. steering wheel has been moved forward about 2.5 feet and the seats been changed and moved forward about 1.5 feet. other than being hacked up a bit i kinda like the way it's been set up. i do need to mod the shifter a bit more than whats already been done as it is in the way of the clutch when in 1st and reverse. sorry about getting side tracked.

just got it home, i will be taking pic's and posting them tomorrow. also will have pic's posted after i get the plow mounts built and the plow hanging off from the front.

Just so that you know, it takes about 10 times as much hydraulic power to run a good log splitter as it does a snow plow. Three gallons per minute to run a plow and thirty gallons is not out of the question for a splitter.

Yeah, I am sure some will say that is overkill. To each his own. I like big bore cylinders (5" or better) and fast cycles.

If you are using a power angle plow from a truck, get the belt driven pump, valves, control cables, plow frame, and selector. The whole nine yards.

The frame below fits a 660. The aft end connects to a reversed drawbar. The frame can be removed from the tractor in several minutes.
