first of all take yours apart to see what is all needed. then you go parts hunting.why would you go for parts and not know what you need?

I do not know why you are splitting the tractor. The PTO will come out the rear. Park the tractor with the front wheels about 20 inches below the rear and even the oil won't come out. THe engagement dogs at the rear of the shaft are likely rounded. They can be reshaped, or welded and reshaped to operate. Either way take with you the parts, there are some differences and having the right usable parts is important. Jim

I looked in my Farmall M parts catalog and there are three different PTO units used on that model tractor. If you are certain you have a 1944 or later M which would have a s/n greater then FBK 67423 you would need the later and final type which was first installed on s/n FBK 59957 in late 1942. As an earlier post suggested you should pull your old unit and have with you to compare to what you locate to elminate getting the wrong one as it would certainly be possible. Good luck in your hunt and correction of your problem, Hal.
