Guys help me here , It has been 35 years since I adjusted out a plow and a 140 . It is an IH two bottom plow . One point fast hitch .
I hooked it up today and made two passes across the garden plot . First let me say that the plow shears are worn out . I will replace them tomorrow if I can find the parts and my wife will have to go pick them up.
Is the front bar to the front hydrolics suppose to be on to plow ? I do not remember . I think it is suppose to be on.
OK The plow has a 14" spread yet the shears measure out at 16" , looks like 16" points four bolt . Does this sound right ?
How do you adjust the plow out ?

Yes you need to have the bar that goes to the hydrolics on to plow . That plow should be a 12 inch bottom, i dont think there was a 14 inch fast hitch for the 140. Erik..

Yes they did . I have one 14" spread ----we also had one back in 1967 when we bought our 140 .
Thanks for the bar info , I thought so!

The cut is 12", but the bottom sweeps back at an angle so the shares/shears"/points/whatever will measure longer. The length of the point is not what determines the cut, the horizontal distance between the points is.

What do you mean by "adjust it OUT" though?

Guys if cut is 12 inches , why is there 14 " between beams --Center Point to Center point?
OK let me ask the question in a different manner .
What adjustments do you make to get plow to run true .

I will go out and measure mine this morning and get back to you. I have three of them and they are all the same. My frend has 4 or 5 fast hitch plows . Pretty sure they are all 12 inch.

Bought a fast hitch plow for a 140 a couple years ago thinking it was 2 twelves. Wrong, it measures 14 inches from center to center. Gives a 140 a workout pulling it too.

Ok I went to the IH dealer today , the model of this plow is IH 215 --- it is a 14" plow , I put new plow shears on it and it did well . Load problems showing up with tractor . Very heavy hard soil , been in pasture .
Under load tractor pops out of first gear . Did it twice plowing up a 40' x 80' plot . Also under load , tractor goes into a hunt condition .

On the 140 I have the fast hitch attachs to the front bar on the far left hole and the front bar would be adjusted down near the bottom using the hydraulics. Also on the back the left arm would be adjusted to be 6 inches longer to keep the plow level with the right wheels being in the furrow.

Tire pressure was also an issue when we first got the tractor (77) - plowed best with 10-12 psi in the right rear tire. Just be sure you have the valve stem at the top to check the pressure in case there is liquid in the tires.

Also never bothered to check how wide it was plowing - was just glad to switch from the AllisChalmer B with a narrow single plow (10 inch furrow?) when faced with a 12 acre field.

Hope everything works out.

I have the same IH 215 plow for my 140. It is a two bottom fourteen inch plow. I have found that it does get a little unwieldy in heavy or wet soil. Best to not let it cut too deep by raising the front hydraulics on the fast hitch. Otherwise, you should set the fast hitch with some side to side slop so the plow can find its own path. As someone previously noted you need to adjust the leveler on the hitch to make it run level with the wheel in the furrow (after the first row with no furrow).

Best of luck.
J.
