Well, my twin 8N's have company in the barn. Been looking for a Cub for awhile and came across this '47 driven by a little ol' lady in the Santa Claus parade. I have some books on order but can't wait to learn more about this machine and if my experience on the N side is any indication then I'm sure I'll find out more than I need to know on this side.
Firstly - any idea what those two holes on the hood are for?
- paint scheme, fairly accurate? even with white wheels?
- is it indeed a '47?
It runs like a sewing machine too!

Thanks for the input.

It does look a bit odd from the one's that I've seen in books - but its sure stuck on there like an original. No idea why someone would sand off the rest of the info on the plate. Would the casting numbers on the body be helpful?

Won't vouch for the serial number but the plate is pretty much like the ones on the late 50's cubs I looked at when I was shopping around. I am not the world's expert on cubs but the side view of your grill looks like a 1959 and later 4 bar grill. If so, it should probably be white and the lights should be sealed beam I'm thinking and not those very nice lamp type fixtures. Lots more info at farmallcub dot com including a lot of manuals, etc in pdf format so you don't have to wait to get info. If I am wrong about my guesses above a cub guy won't be far off to dispute me. HTH, Dave

Hmm, Strange people if someone did indeed grind the rest off. THe casting codes would be helpfull to someone that could decode them. I unforunitly cannot lol

I have three tractors that people have repainted at some point and all three have plates like that. Not sure if media blasting does it or what. Can make it challenging to read them.

A lot of serial plates look like that. The silk screening has worn/weathered off and the stamped part remains. That serial number is from late '49. The grille has been replaced with the 4-bar style which was factory installed from '58 to '63. Not an unusual substitution.

The front wheels were originally red. The rear wheel disks were also red. The rear rims were silver/galvanized. Your exhaust pipe is silver, so I assume the manifold is as well. Origially, the manifold and exhaust pipe were red. Otherwise your colors look pretty well as originally built.

Original equipment would have used a magneto. Yours has been converted to battery ignition.

Pretty girl . Put a woods belly mower under her and you have the smoothest riding mower ever built IMHO. Rides like a Rolls !
Nice

Thanks for the input, lots of info as predicted.

Do the decals look accurate? - they're peeling and have to be replaced, just wanna make sure I have the right ones.

Many Thanks,
