I'm wanting to convert my Cub to 12 volt. It has a magneto, so I assume it should be much easier than converting a tractor with a distributor. I know I can use the same starter and I'll have to change the lights to 12 volt.
What I really need to know is, whats the best alternator to use on a Cub and whats the correct way to wire it. I'm sure I'm making this much harder than it really is. Sure would like to hear from someone who's done it before. Thanks in advance for the help.

I have not done it on a cub. But i have done it to others. I would use a 1 wire alternator with low cut in . Thats the cleanist and easyist swap IMHO Brillman company helped me with a couple of my conversions. They have a small alternator with low cutin and 1 wire for 129- Not bad i guess. Alot of guys will come in here and tell you to find a small alternator off of some japan-made cars. I chose to support this company so i ordered from them.

With a 1 wire alt you bring 1 wire back to the battery and thats it...
Poke here

I would think putting 12v on a C ub is just a waste of good money as the 60cuin motir will sure start with 6v Good tuned Cub will start with one turn of the engine. I just finished restoring a Cub and it fires almost as soon as you pull the lever.
