i got a small farmall stationary engine ive heard some things about them i was wondering what i actually have here its one stroke and it has a water style cooling tank on the top the cap is missing a large solid handcrank on one side and a a 2 belt pully on the otherit apears to hold about one gallon of gas in a tank on the bottom which im sure would have to be mixed or something any information as to value and model just any information in general would be greatly appreciated....

What exactly is a "one stroke" engine? Never heard of it, but I guess I haven't heard everything.

A "stroke" as used in engine terms is the disance a piston travels either on its way up, or on its way down.

A "four stroke cycle" engine uses four strokes to complete a cycle.

A "two stroke cycle" engine uses two strokes to complete a cycle.

One stroke would mean a piston goes up but never comes down, or . . . goes down but never comes up?

see if you can post some pics on the stationary forum further down the page, like cj said, its prolly an old hit and miss motor.

I can only guess without looking, but I have an engine that sounds like the one you are trying to decribe. It's a McCormack Deering 1 1/2-2 1/2 Hp. One cylinder, water cooled gas engine. It has an oil reservoir. Do not mix oil and gas in the gas tank. The difference in the hp. is the speed that you set the governor. The faster it turns the more hp. you get. It don't have a throttle lever to change speed, but a lever to change from one speed to the other. Hope this may help and I know this is on the wrong forum.

it is probably an ihc model LB, or LA engine. they have a solid flywheel with a flip out crank on them.just look above the valve cover if its on there and you will see the serial # and it will say what you got.the LA is the earlier version that replaced the model M. if it has two spoke flywheels then it is a model M. these motors are not hit and miss. they have a governor and fire every revolution.

LOL to gun!
so the Lanz Bulldog tractor had a one stroke pony motor to start the 2 stroke single cylinder diesel??

:)

the stroke, cycle, and cylinder thing is probably more confused in the general population than we may like to think.
