Bull pinion and brake shaft seals

I need to replace the bull pinion and brake shaft seals on my 1947 M. What is the procedure for removing the cage so I can remove the seal. I have attempted to pull the cage with bolts in the two threaded holes but it will only move 1/2 inch and will not go any further.
Thanks,
Dave

I answered this on the Restoration forum. Pull some more and you will break the cage -- Just pull or dig on the seal, carefully, whatever it takes--the seal will come out.

Search the archives, this has been described several times.

Here is the basic idea. Pull the PTO assembly. Remove the bolt and washer holding the bull gear to the axle. Remove the 4 bolts at the outside end of the axle housing, slide the axle out and let the bull gear drop out of the slot in the bearing cage. Then you can pull the cage.
