Converting IH implements to 3 Point Hitch

I have purchased several of my grandfathers implements that he used on his IH 200 tractor. I have restored them and now want to use them on my JD 4400. Can you please tell me if there is any conversion piece that will take me from the IH quick hitch system to a standard 3 point system. Thanks for your help.

Yes there are "arms" that "plug in" a fast hitch implements. They can be hard to find at times and expensive....there are also various homemade hitches that will work...try an ad on the classifieds.

Thank you for your suggestion Farmall Bob09. I was going to make a conversion piece but I figured somebody all ready had, so why reinvent the wheel. All I have to do is find it and that is not proving easy.

Have you looked on e-bay? I have actually seen a sale for one of these cross my desk recently but can't remember where. Likely it was on e-bay as I am poking around there a lot.

I've seen lots of stuff geared up to mount 3pt gear on a fast hitch but never the other way around. Also with a tractor the size of a 4400 in front of them your implements for a 200 aren't going to last very long. It may be easier to find a 200? Sam

Chris, Have you thought about selling the Super C, 200 and 230 sized 2 point fast hitch implements and finding 3 point equipment sized for your larger tractor. Not much reason to pull those pint size pieces around when you can do real work with larger implements sized to your tractor. You have far to much power for those smaller implements. There are a lot of 2 point fast hitch folks out there looking for what you have and the 3 point equipment is very common in todays world. Just a thought but could turn out to be a wash for you especially trying to improvise something that isn't easy to do. Good luck in what you decide to do, Hal.

How many HP is a 4400?

Regardless of what you kind of 3 pt. tractor you wish to pull them with, you"re really far better off to leave them as is and either find you a fast hitch tractor to match them or sell them to somebody who has one.

Mark, a JD 4400 has 35 drawbar HP per external_link. I was thinking of a 4440 when I read the post which is like 120 HP or more. Can't keep those green tractor correct as I never was around them enough to know their numerous numbering systems. It appears the JD 4400 with Farmall M compatible power and is a fair three plow tractor whereas the 200 is a two plow size tractor.

I saw a 3 point to IH fast hitch conversion on either ebay or craiglist, They did make them, you put it on like a 3 point but it had pockets that the fast hitch implemnet hooked into, try JP tractor salvage, they may have one. If you can find one or make one you wouldnt have to weld or cut anything.

Here you go!

Whatever you do, do NOT cut off the tongs and install 3pt pins on the implements. They're relatively valulable as-is, and cutting into them would ruin that.

You could probably trade even-up for 3pt equipment now if you wanted, or maybe even come out money ahead.

If you can't get that fast hitch adapter pictured above, the "correct" way to handle the situation is to build your own. However, you might be able to find a junked tractor with the "category I" (small tongs) fast hitch on it. Get the sockets off that tractor and hang them from a 3pt frame. There are a lot more tractors with fast hitch than there are implements to put on the tractor.

Ernest, thanks for the link, unfortunaely I was to late and the item sold. Actually the item sold a while ago they just never removed it. If you ever see that again, please send me an email at [email protected]. Thanks for your help

Hi Hal,
Not going to sell this equipment was my grandfathers, plus I just scraped and repainted the whole plow. Sentimental reasons you know.

Hi Dave,

Looked on ebay and coudln't find anything that would help me. Found a lot of things to go from the tractor and convert it to a 3 point hitch but, nothing to go from a plow with a quick hitch to a 3 point hitch. If you see that add again, please send me an email at [email protected]. Thanks for your help.

Chris, Per the post provided by MM_TX below the adapter you need is for the smaller fast hitch points with are 2 1/2" high. That is the size of the points on your 200 FH implements. You can use the larger fast hitch receiver for the 3" wide points but you will need 1/2" thick spacer bars to shim the receivers to retain the hitched implement. I think both fast hitch points are on 28" spacing between them. Good luck, Hal.
