What is being done about the no longer furnished tach drive gear for the 300-450? Seems like 80% I see are stripped. I have found a few random NOS but kind of pricey. Yea supply and demand.

You got three choices:

1. Pay the NOS price.
2. Find a good used one at a junkyard.
3. Leave it broken.

I know that sounds bizarre. About 40 years ago, I replaced the speedpmeter drive gear in a military 45" Harley-Davidson. The original was made of phenolic and I reproduced it in brass at the local Voke School night class. They had a small Hardinge miller with the proper gear cutting tooling. It was nothing special; a set of indexing heads and a cutter with the right pressure angle. I learned alot about gears.

If you don't have the time or inclination, talk to the daytime head of the machine shop. He might assign a daytime student to make the part.

Go to a transmission shop and match up the gear pitch and diameter (there are so many, one is likely to be identical (or very close) modify the shaft interface or length to suit. Been there and did not ask what it came from. the task only took 5 minutes in a drawer full of used plastic gears. jim

i just got a new one from our ih dealer last month. they ordered it and it came the next day. new ih part. not aftermarket or new old stock. sounds like your dealer doesn't want to help you very badly.
