I tired to search and find an answer to my question but I must not be using the right combination of words.

Anyway, I have a BN that needs it's engine rebuilt. It still runs but it's tired and needs to be gone through. My question is, depending on what kit I get what kind of HP increase am I looking to get over stock.

Right now it has 3" flat top pistons. According to tractor data that should give it around 18HP.

They list a SA with a C123 and 3 1/8" pistons putting out around 20HP at the same max RPM so I'm assuming a 3 1/8" kit would do about the same in my C113.

So what would a 3 1/8" stepped piston kit give me? 21 - 22HP?

I would love to get a hair over 20HP. I'm not looking into making a pulling machine but a little extra HP would be handy on the PTO.

I'm sure there was some differences in the carb between the SA with the C123 and the A with a C113.

Thanks,

K

Your going to need the pop up pistons!

Your on track with the HP But theres more in there with those pistons!

We Have a C with 34HP with that kit and Head work!

Wow, 34 is way more then I would need. Very impressive though! If I got 22 - 24 that would make me very happy.

What did you do to your head? I'm also assuming that you are running over 1400 RPM?

I would like to add some HP but also keep it fairly tame was well. It's a working tractor and I would hate to over stress it.

Thanks,

K

My "B" has the high top, 3 1/8" pistons and easily dynos at 24 HP. I allow it to run only 100 RPM over stock. I set up the governor using a good, digital tachometer.

With wheel weights, no liquid in the tires it has more power than traction in soft ground.

I could easily get more power, more RPM would mean more power too, but that would also mean it could break things more easily too, and that isn't what I want either.

That's very good to hear. Did you have to do anything else to you setup besides install the bigger pistons (besides the increased RPM)? No carb work or anything like that? I would like to stay as close to stock as possible for both the tractors sake and my my wallet as well.

I also don't want to get to carried away with running up the engine RPM. Like I said the biggest reason I want more HP is at the PTO. I would like to get the boost while staying fairly close to 540 RPM at the PTO.

Thanks,

The C has a lot of port Manifold and Carb work!

It runs 2300 rpms and is a part time puller!

My 1939 A is like what you Need and is 27 HP with 3 1/8 Tisco Pop Ups with some clean up of the ports and a richer carb!

It makes a nice tractor out of it but if your going to use the pto for heavy work install a Super C water pump to keep its Cool Better!

No, not really. No carburator changes. The head had been planed flat by a previous owner, but it stills runs fine on regular unleaded pump gas, so there couldn't have been too much taken off.

I did put hardened exhaust valves seats in it and put a water pump on it, but that wouldn't increase horsepower.

Thanks guys.

It sounds like I'm looking at a setup like Red Dave's B.

Cliff, maybe if I get a little crazy I'll look into doing some port work. On your carb did you just put a bigger jet in or did you have to drill it out? I don't think I'm going to mess with mine but I'm still curious.

Thanks again,

K

Go with the 3 1/8 HI-DOME ones you will be happy. You should end up with around 22-24 when you are done. Do the valves and you can leave the carb alone iv done a few without touching the carb. Do yourself a favor and get the starter rebuilt so it wil have no problems starting when engine done.

Larger Vinturi and jet that i Drilled out !

On Your set up Go .040 Drill Bit on a Zenith and it will be what you need!
