Iam working on an 1962 International 140. The hydraulic lift will raise at normal speed but it will lower real slow and the pump labors. I cleaned the screen and changed the fluid but it didnt help. Is there an orfice or an adjustment that needs to be made to speed up the lower function?

Nope. That's the way they are.

The reason it lowers slower is for precision positioning of the implement, such as a grader blade or cultivators. Slower gives you more reaction time.

hydraulics on both my 140's seem to raise and lower at about the same rate. Sounds like something is clogged or the pivot points need grease. Experts will offer advice I'm sure.

Raise and lower depends on how the implement is mounted--front and center mounts usually lower as cylinder expands moving rockshaft arms forward. Rear mounts usually lower as piston retracts moving rockshaft arm rearwards. My unloaded left cylinder is faster to expand than retract. My right cylinder, which raises a snow plow when it retracts, is about the same in both directions.

Yup, it doesn't make sense to me, either. Left one also loads the engine some when it retracts, so something is probably wrong. I never use it, only the right one, so I don't worry about it.
