Farmall H 6 volt battery?? Bermuda Ken help?

I need a new 6 volt battery for my Farmall H. My battery box is pretty close to the origional ( I have both and checked). What is the best fitting battery? Does anyone know the exact dimensions of the CNH battery? Can a Ford dealer get that exact one? I had a Midstate with black case dimensions 9"L x 7 13/16"H x 6 13/16" wide . Thanks!

Measure the box and call a battery dealer. If you are in CT call Rae Industries in Berlin.Best battery my money has been spent on.

Second what Vito says, get a good 6V, i do not recommend the 8V you will have to adjust/rebuild the generator in order to charge it correctly.

all batteries are sized by a group number. your h uses a group 1 battery. any place that sells batteries should be able to get one for you. all group 1 batteries will fit in your h's battery box.

I agree with RAE batteries. I took one out of a ford 1910 that had been in the tractor for 10 years and is used year round. He is located right off the berlin t pike. Hes a great guy to deal with and is just a good guy in general. He keeps his warehouse heated and all the batteries off the floor. Unfortunitly last time I was there and spoke to him strict regulations made him take all the handles off of all batteries which is unfortunite

What has been your experience with the 8v batterys. I know af a couple tractors that have been using them for yrs and they didnt change anything batterys are charged and even read good on the hydrometer.

I know of a few guys that have done them with Cubs and i did it with a Massey 44 years ago and none of them were satisfactory at charging them. Heck the generator only charges a few amps at WOT on 6v, put the 8v in there and its even worse. Generally what i see when people put in a 8v battery there wiring system is poor ie incorrect wire gauge and or bad wires themselves. With correct wires and good connections there is nothing wrong with the 6v. Everything just has to be 100% This is what i have encountered with the 8v batteries, i know that some generators with the adjustable 3 brush will charge them well, i have yet to have one with this type, or know someone that have done it.

Yup. Most 8V batteries get installed to mask some other problem with the system... Bad cables, bad wiring, non-functional charging system...

The regulator-generator systems on these old tractors are a complete mystery to pretty much everyone. The symptom is a dead battery so the logical cure is to replace the battery...

How do you charge an 8V battery with a battery charger? I've never found a charger that has an 8V setting.

Buy a Group 1 6-volt battery. The 8-volt battery might have been the ticket for this back in the 1950's when the tractor was used hard everyday. However for most tractors today a 6 volt or 12 volt (if converted) works best.

That seems to be the trouble the rest of the system needs attention and probably new cables so they go to 8v but it does make them turn over better. Amazing with the armature cleaned and slots done with new brushes and bushings how well they work. Original with the three brushes you can up the amps easy also have the correct regulator makes for better operation as they do list two regs for those tractors.
