Farmall H lift-all drive dog loose

I replaced the seal on the transmission side of the lift-all drive dog and shaft. My problem, I can't get the shaft tight. It moves 1/16" front to back. It was tight when I took it out. I backed off the lift-all nut into the shaft using 2 pipe wrenches and it comes loose. I tried using a hydraulic cylinder and the shaft is still loose. Will I have a problem because I can move the shaft 1/16" back in forth into either sleeve? Thanks!

I can't see how it would really be a problem, if the sleeves fit fairly well. I'd think maybe better a little loose than too tight. Does it make bad sounds when the tractor is running?

I can see that that could happen if it was flopping around, but I would think with the sleeves that it would work fine, I don't know.

Did you have the Lift-All out? If so, loosen the 4 cap screws holding the unit in place and slide it back towards the transmission.
There should be some free-play between the drive & driven dogs to prevent premature pump wear.
