Most likely one of the W-series, maybe a W-6? Better pics would help, or a serial number if the tag's still there. Here's my 1945 W-6 for comparison.

its a W4 mccormick, also look at the serial # tag in front of starter and it will tell you.

(quoted from post at 16:47:08 03/14/10) I'm going to hazard a guess and say maybe an O-6 or an OS-6? Could be totally wrong.
Zach

I think an O/OS would have a low slung intake and exhaust. IIRC the difference between the O and OS was the omission of the fender flares (I don't remember the real word) and side curtains on the OS.

I am going with W-4 as well. On first look I thought the hood was too narrow, but on second look I guess it is a 4.

Is the motor stuck? The tires don't look the greatest and the fenders were beat up. Those are two/three really expensive areas. I'm not sayin, I just sayin. It is your money. I would definatly buy it if I could buy it right, but I wouldn't pay like crazy for it.

On third look, the rears don't look that unreasonable and they are an AWESOME tread pattern. I would certainly look them over for bad cracks before pulling the trigger, but they should do what tires are supposed to.

(quoted from post at 19:19:49 03/14/10) those tires look like the old rice tire tread.
wner not giving much detail, hasn't run in awhile,I'll know more when I get to touch it. He's starting at $700, not bad if its not stuck, and he's a horse trader from way back...so The thing is that I don't see too many W anything that isnt a complete basket case. So we'll see how much he wants to play.......

I have a pair of 11.00-40 tires with that closed tread design, on my Farmall F-12. Story I heard years ago, was that they were made in hopes of producing more traction than the regular bar tread tires. So the story goes, they turned out to be no better, and the open bar tread became the norm for tractor tires.

I have some walk behind garden tractors with that same tread design.

Andrew,

It is not a OS-6 or OS-4 because a OS would have a hand clutch. It is either a W-4 or W-6, most likely a W-4.

Hey guys, on the tread desighn the only time I paid any attention to them was in 1951, we were disking, I was driving a new B john deere with bar tread tires and the guy behind me was driving an A john deere with the contious tread tires we went through a low wet place, my tractor spun the wheels but the A did not.It may have been the difference in weight.I really enjoy reading this forum, read it several times a day I have a 53 super c

I agree with W 4 or 6. Although I-4 or 6 might be an option? Although I think the Industrials had beefier front axles, which makes me think W. It's not an Orchard because the exhaust on the orchard tractos routes down to the front to point at the front left wheel.

I dig the turkey-feet tread on the back. You can't find tires like that anymore. If they are in good shape, then they are a rare find. If I could get some 38's for my H I would.

I know, I've got no problem with $700 either. There ain't a whole lot of W's in my neck of the woods. Not really "Rare" in the scheme of things but rare enough in these parts! We'll see. :p
