MW tenderfoot shifter

Has anybody had any experance with the M&W tenderfoot shifter (after market) for any of the 966 International tractors or comparibale tractors. I would be thankful for any comments.

The tenderfoot in my opinion is more trouble than its worth. Hard to adjust and harder still to keep adjusted. It is hard on the TA clutches when out of adjustment and can cause TA failure.

I bought one and it is supposed to improve shifting ease and make shifts smoother. I have a 966,1066 and 2 826 tractors they are allhard and awkword to shift except the 826 hydro which is super for loader work or baleing hay. I would like more comments thank you.

It sounds as if you need to do some adjusting. Those 66 series tractors should shift pretty well if everything is tight and adjusted properly. The first thing you need to do is pull the cowl right in front of the dash off. This will let you inspect all of the shifting linkages. Start at the top and work your way down replacing anything with any slop in it. You may have to even pull the range trans cover and replace some stuff in there. After all of that is done then you need adjust your trans brake and dump valve. The Tractor Vet can walk you through that procedure. I did my 1256 a year ago just like he told me and it shifts much, much better now. It maybe doesn't shift quite as good as he said it would be he wasn't here to do it himself so I might have not done something quite right. I replaced all of the linkages from top to bottom too. I didn't end up pulling the trans cover because that part of it seemed really good. Of course all of this will be a lot harder if these tractors have cabs. I sure wouldn't waste my time and money trying to put some after market thing on there.

I never installed a M&W tenderfoot, however I do adjust one on a regular basis for someone. What they do is lock up both clutch packs,(direct drive and ta lock up ) so as to positively stop the trans shaft and gears from turning so you don't scratch gears when shifting into gear. Trick is, you never fully depress the clutch pedal until gears have slowed down and tractor is not rolling. It is that last little bit of movement of pedal that diverts the oil to both clutch packs. Tricky to adjust and use. I don't know for sure what modifications are made in the mcv as I have never even seen installation instructions. Personally, I don't like them and IH sure did not and it voided all warranty on power train if there was any at time of installation. With that being said, this guy has had it on tractor for at least 20 years and likes it. Did custom round baleing for many years with that tractor so much stopping and starting.
