Removing yoke on transmission shaft on M

Tranny seals need replacement so I've removed transmission coupling and made a few attempts to get yoke off of transmission, but it will not budge. Any magic formula for getting it off, or will heat and pry bar work? Any answers appreciated.

The transmission drive yolk slides on the shaft and has a half-moon key to locate it on the shaft. Pull harder (you did remove the capscrew & washer, didn't you??).

The upper drive/input shaft is as described by Wayne.
If it is the lower pump coupling, it comes out Lefty loosy with a flat tool in the slot, the tractor in gear, and brakes set. They are often hard to remove, use a bit of impact on the tool while turning it. Jim

Thanks, the pump coupling came out easy, with just alittle persuasioion with a pipe wrench. (no damage to the coupling) It's the yoke on the trans. shaft that I can't get to move.

Yes, absolutely did remove cap screw and washer, which came off fairly easy. You mentioned pulling it off, but how? Yoke won't move on the shaft. Guess I'll try some heat and some kind of pry method. Of course it's been on there for 60+ years, so it's natural some work will be needed to take it off.

Bruce - You can use the coupling's center flange as a puller to get the yoke off. You'll need a wrench socket with an OD a bit smaller than the ID of the yoke bore, a few washers about the same OD as the socket and two 5/16" bolts and nuts.

Place the socket in the center of the yoke so it's bearing on the tranny input shaft. Sandwich it in place with the center flange using washers as spacers so the yoke ears and the flange are about 1/2" or apart. Then use the 5/16" bolts/nuts through the yoke ear and flange holes to clamp the whole business together.

Now alternately and evenly tighten the 5/16" nuts to squeeze the socket toward the yoke - it should easily walk the yoke off the tranny shaft. (Usually once the yoke starts it'll slide easily off the rest of the way).

Thanks Bob. Question: What you're calling the coupling's center flange is the 4 hole squarish looking piece that goes between the clutch shaft yoke and the trans. shaft yoke, correct? Thanks for the great idea. I'll give it a try.
