power steering for M

Just bought a nice M with a FH loader. Is there a way to add power steering to the tractor? The thing is a beast to turn when using the loader.

there were 2 aftermarket ps set ups for the m, one from char-lynn and the other a behlen unit. charlynn used a ps pump driven off the fanbelt, the behlen was driven off the distributor. a good tractor salvage yard or e bay will have them.

There is, but it is not cheap. You can go new from OEM tractor parts or look for used. The steering shaft will have to be cut I believe .
More knowledgeable guys here can answer better than I.

hi i have a complete charlynn power steering kit for a farmall m in good working condion i would sale for $700.00 plus shipping if you are intersted email me

Thanks for the info guys. Can someone tell me how difficult these are to install and how well they perform once correctly installed?

No experience with an M, but Dad had a Charlynn unit on one of them green model 60s and it worked great. Also made a good hand warmer in the winter when picking corn. I also have one on my 240U and it is supplied from a priority flow divider valve off the tractor pump. It is not the best of set-ups, but with an M you will need a separate pump anyway. Idled down, I loose my 3 point and the steering gets a little slow. Rev it up a little and it's fine. It would be better if it had the Saginaw (GM) belt driven PS pump like Dad's 60, or if it was supplied off the crankshaft driven loader pump.

hi yes there is a charlynn and a behlen set up for an h the chARLYNN PUMP IS DIFFRENT FROM A M TO A H i have a carlynn kit for a m with some mods it will fit an h but you would probaly be better to buy a kit for and h i do have a char lynn motor for $250.00 if you are intrested just email me or if you have any questions

(quoted from post at 19:54:57 03/12/10) Is the same set-ups avail. for Farmall H's?

There is a complete Charlynn kit for an H on eBay. I believe the auctiion is still open.

It will work with an M but a few changes are necessary. One of those is a different bevel plate that OEM Tractor Parts or Stiener's will have. Call them for info.
