The second tractor might be a SMTA judging by the bolster and the stylized TA decal. 1954.

If the photographer took half a dozen photos, I hope that is not the best one. It looks like all he wanted to show us was the rear wheel.

I think I see the TA lever right above the belly bracket. They only made them in "1954." IIRC there were some made in Nov and Dec of '53, but they are still '54s.

The other tractor is a Farmall :D Serial number or casting numbers is the only positive way you can pinpoint the year bc so many of these tractors were updated over time.

Sflem,

SM was produced up until the middle of Feb '54. I own the 177th SMTA built. All the SMTA specific castings are dated after 1 Jan 54 and have "Z" codes.

Didn't one of Guy's books say they were actually produced in 1.XX calander years, but all were 1954 model year? Maybe I had it backwards that the SMs were produced longer than they were produced.

1st BN was produced on 10/31/1940, discontinued sometime in late 1947 or very early 1948. No way to tell what year by the picture.

Not with a Z code, the codes give the month and day of the calendar year. There is still some confusion as to whether a, say, Nov or Dec tractor is the next years model. That does not apply to the SMTA which were all 54's.
