i have a gas 656 pulling a 7ft bush hog , normally no problem.
oil, hydraulic oil, and coolant all ok.
runs for about 30-40 mins and then coughs splutters and stalls out.
will restart after about 5 mins but soon stalls again.
temerature gauge is normal.
but engine seems to have a significant heat haze coming of off it.
any ideas as i'm at a loss??
thanks

Yep, rust in your gas tank is plugging the sediment bowl and maybe the screen where the line goes into the carb. The carb runs dry and it quits. Gas trickles in and fills the carb in 5 minutes and it restarts. Common problem, plenty of posts around here and in the archives about fixing it. Do a search on gas tank or fuel line. When you pull the fuel line from the carb, you need a good steady flow of over 5 minutes into a gas can. You can also pull the bottom plug on the carb to check the flow into a funnel and gas can.

Yep, rust in the tank, I have one in the barn right now waiting for warm weather so I can take the tank off and wash it out and seal it with Redcoat tank sealer.

Pull the gas line at the carburetor and see there's a full stream of gas from the tank. If there's a full stream of gas from the gas line I would remove the tube fitting where your gas line connects and see if there's a screen behind that tube fitting that's full of rust or dirt.

If the gas flow looks ok you should pull a plug wire asap when it quits running and check for fire to your sparkplugs. You need to do this before anything cools. If there's no fire or very weak fire to your plug your coil is probably weak when it gets warm. Hal

Sounds like you may have to high heat range spark plugs in it. Put in Champion D15 or the equivalent brand of your choice. If something in the fuel system was plugged it would act up as soon as you start it.
