560 power steering problem

The power steering works well in both directions but the problem is that when the tractor is used for stationary power, running elevator, splitting wood, etc., the steering wheel will slowly turn to the right until in the fully locked position and continue to load the hyd. system. Is there a way to balance out this situation?

Probably not what you wanted to hear, but we just hung the hook from a short chain through the steering wheel. Chain was on platform.

The steering valve is not centering, might be a loosened nut on end of spool, or damaged seal in side valve causing it to bind or could be in the actuating mechanism inside bolster that moves valve. Also, check that splined knuckle is not binding on shaft as shaft needs to be free to move in an out of bolster. You can take the cap off end of valve, held on by two allen head screws to check nut and observe valve movement.

Thanks, Brownie, I've been restraining the steering wheel for years, I just thought that
there must be a cause and effect for this. It's good to know that I am not alone with this problem.

Thanks Pete, I'll check out this stuff. I got out the book and studied Dwg IH1040. Years ago I had the piston and rack out when I had to replace the bolster shaft bearings. They were so bad that the front end would only partially turn and lock up. I have never been into the control valve...........until now.

Wardner, thanks, that ebay picture is better than the IHC. They call it "ANTIQUE" , well darn, the 560 is the newest tractor I have
