IH 27V sickle mower

I have obtained a 27V sickle mower. However I need a tow bar for
it. The manual says it is an A-Frame pivot. Bolts on to the tractor,
then the sickle is attached with 2 horizontal bolts one on each side.
I can post some pictures out of the manual if needed. What I am
wanting is dimensions so I could make one. Or to buy one off of
somebody. Case dealer said not available Part# 453 840 R11.
Thanks for any help.

When I needed a mounting bracket for my first JD #5 mower many years back (very similar mower to what you have, by the way), I blocked the mower up on the drive using the manual for positioning guidance and then put the tractor where it should be if the bracket were present. Making sure I had everything positioned right I then took careful measurements and using known information regarding what was available at the steel yard I made a drawing of a bracket that would fit the job even if it did not bear a great deal of resemblance to the original. Used it for years and it worked great. Alternative, and you will need to do this anyway if you are planning on using the mower, is to find another mower with the bracket on it and keep it for a parts mower. It is really not pratical to rely on those old pitman mowers for cutting hay unless you have a parts mower to back you up when you get into trouble. BTDT!

Are you talking about the wide u shaped bar that bolts to the drawbar of the tractor, is turned up on the ends and then bolts to the mower frame? Measures about 28" long with 4" turn up ends? I have one where do you live?

It isn't the same mower, or a great picture, but it gives you an idea of how I did mine a couple years ago. Mowed a couple hundred acres with it and works great. Hope I helped.

Here is a picture out of the manual of what I am looking for. It is item #5. Is this what you have Mr. Davis?

My dad has a 27V that we still use on our 5 acres of alfalfa. Gimme a few days and I'll try and get some dimensions for ya and maybe even get a few pictures too. It's off of the tractor right now so I should be able to get a few clear shots of the hitch. Ours is all original except for the lift (and obviously the cycle sections/ledger plates). It's been converted to a hydraulic lift.
