Is this the type of Nozzle Body Retainers (NBR) that you had envisioned? As you can see, the puller will engage the NBR fully with the injector removed. Both faces are perfectly flat so it is a much nicer fit than on the injectors. It will not pull the NBR out though! Those things are TIGHT!
A friend of mine is in a maintenance tech degree program and he has to make a large slide hammer that engages 1/2" female threads on the end. He will be making the large hammer next week. He is going to try and find some HEAVY flat stock that we can punch the two holes 1 31/32" apart in (Why not 2"???) then weld a 1/2" nut to the pulling plate. This BFsH should get the job done...maybe.
I can't stand having those copper washers in the bottom of the NBRs and not knowing how dirty they are and what kind of shape they are in.
I will be taking the injectors in to get tested next week. Huckstorf Diesel in Milwaukee will test them for $16 each. They will wave the $16 fee if they need rebuilding.
Will the 450 injectors fit my tractor? I might buy those so I have some extra cores or can maybe find four to "pop" out of my eight.

My uneducated guess is that the 450 injectors would fit your tubes but you might want to make sure you have the 450 injector lines from the pump also. I just did a swap of injectors from a 400 to a 450 and the 450 injector lines attach about an 1/8 of a turn clockwise. sorta at a 45° angle to the plain of the head.

Zactly. The 450 lines are easier to put on/take off, but come in from about the 10:30 position and are a bit longer. They came about with the B pumps, somewhere in the late 400 series I am told.

I would check that measurement. I haven't measured those, but it would be very rare to find bolt holes not on a standard inch based spacing. Not that it should matter as the holes should be slotted a bit anyways, or oversized a skosh. Apply torque while popping will help. You won't get a lot of bang from a slide hammer, which sometimes is not a bad thing.

I got the injectors popped today and not one of them passed! Two were iffy and two were straight fails. One of the straight fails was a supposed good one.

I called the local IH dealers and both of them said they never heard of a tool to remove the precups.

Could you drive two full thread bolts through the threaded holes on the precup and push off the head? It seems like a good way to ruin a super expensive head to me, but I will ask. When you say to apply torque - Have one guy pry up while the other guy bangs the hammer??? I like the thought!
