Farmall H Throttle ID Question with Pictures

This is the throttle off my war model distallate H. I don't remember the serial number, but I can get it if needed.
What is this throttle? It sure isn't the sawtooth or friction throttle I am used to! What SHOULD be holding the throttle contraption on where the large bolt and many nuts is? Does the 90* bend go down through the top or up through the bottom? Does it go in the hole towards the front or the back?
Thanks!

Looks like a sorta cobbled up M&W friction throttle to me. Very common throttle Chinese rip offs still available new.

wow. I thought I was the only guy with that style of throttle, complete with nuts for spacers, springs and square nuts to complete the ensemble. Whoa. It's also nice to see that I'm not the only crazy yahoo with a partly yellow rim on an IH tractor! No, in all seriousness, I have the same throttle assy on my 48 h and love it. It's infinitely adjustable unlike the sawtooth design and really will never wear out. If memory serves me correctly, these throttle levers usually came with an m&w governor kit or were available seperately as well.

The friction throttle that I have on my M is cast and yours looks like it is stamped. I have no idea of who built it but if it works who cares and if you take it to a show it could be a conversational pice. As far as which hole or which way the throttle rod goes makes no difference as long as it works and you as the owner are happy with it. Bob

After taking second look I agree with S2710 does not look like M&Ws I have seen , have never seen you exactly like it.

I forgot to add one tiny bit of info. The tractor has an M&W gov. Something like G-11???
The friction throttle I bought for my SMTA is cast steel like most others I have seen. Not sure if it is M&W or if it is Farmall. I never really looked into it. It is like most all other friction throttles I have seen.
I have never seen a stamped flimsy one. It is kind of unique to see a stamped one. Possibly due to a war time shortage? I didn't know that the linkage was hollow either! I always assumed it as solid.

Thanks for all the info and keep it coming!

It was sold by some IH dealers (though not IH, it was red when we purchased ours), and Tractor/Farm stores. It is USA made, for sure. We have it on our SH StageI. A better heavier spring, and a piece of shoe leather cut to a disk (loose the nuts etc and put a cupped washer on the top under the nut. (a valve spring and retainer from a junk engine night be nice) JimN

My H has the same setup. Never gave it much thought.

Although it looks like your spring is compressed about all the way. My H has enough friction without compressing the spring completely.

I forgot, DON'T KNOCK THE YELLOW WHEELS!
I figure if I ever sell the tractor I can market it as JD and double the price

I will try and take the thing apart today. It doesn't look like it has a friction disk in the middle like my cast one.

Do you two have a totally different animal where the throttle pivots? I would like my aftermarket to be original :D

The primary friction element is between the two surfaces. When new ours had (remember this is remembering) a square shanked round headed carrage bolt up from the bottom through the center, this bolt was ~ 1.5" long and had a small diameter heavy wt spring over it. on the spring top was a cup shaped washer with edges turned down. to keep the spring straight. A smaller washer and and castile nut (cotter pin grooves on top) was used to tighten the spring.
Two holse in the bolt kept the cotter and provided adjustment. It had a fiber disk in it when new, (like conveyer belting) but we eventually replaced it when it went "away" with leather. Jim
