Worth the risk?

IH 560 gas, wide front, TA stuck in high. Guy wants 2000. Tractor is in fair condition, runs good. Want to use it for snow pushing, mowing, and some light dirt work. Read the TA posts on here, and some say it can run forever like that, and others say more tbl to follow. I'm just wondering how many would take the risk and buy this tractor?

Thanks,
Pete

Very likely to run for ever that way. The price is good enough (if as described, and you run it for an hour or so to get it warm and feel it under your bum.
I would buy it and fix the TA, as the TA is a great tool for your intent, and could be as little as 200 to fix if it just needs a ramp and rollers to fix it. (depends on your repair skills) a complete TA will likely be less than a grand if you do the swap. JimN

Thanks for the reply.

560.00 for a rebuilt TA, and I'm thinking if I ever do need to crack it I may as well replace the clutch while It's open. Another 230.00. I think that may be a bit too much for me to bite off at once though, so I'll just need to shop around for a good tractor mechanic, and see what the labor would be. I'm guessing to bring it back to really good condition I'm looking at an additionally 2500. But for 4500.00 I can get a decent running 706! =))....decisions decisions!!!

The 560.00 price doesn't include fluids and a new clutch, and a new constant mesh drive tube. A 706 for that price will have even more costly issues. Jim

Thank you all for the information. Think I'll stick to the 560....going to look at a couple more tomorrow and see what kind of shape they're in.

Love this site btw. A wealth of knowledge. A bit above my head for now...but I'll get there!!!
