I picked up a new muffler for my H that has a 2" OD on the bottom. The pipe in my manifold has about a 2.1" ID so the muffler flops around a couple of inches at the top. Do I need a new pipe or can I shim it with a piece of a tin can or something? Any advice will be much appreciated.

Believe you got the wrong muffler. The standard exhaust pipe on an H is 2" pipe which measures approx 2 3/8 OUTSIDE diameter. The muffler inlet slides on the outside of the exhaust pipe and is clamped to it.

Thanks, that helps a lot. I took the muffler I had that came on the tractor to NAPA and got one that was similar. I'll have to go and bother them again.

If they won't let you return it, you might take it to a muffler shop and have them swell the inlet end with thier swaging machine.

Thanks for the number, I'll try it. I think they'll let me return it since I didn't run the tractor with it on. I'll call them in the morning and see what I can find out. I don't know why I didn't think to check if the muffler that was on the tractor was correct before I matched it. I don't care what it looks like as long as it works.
