Super M hydraulic pump gasket

Thanks for all the replies to my first post. I appreciate all the great info. I am new to tractor forums so I'm grateful for all of the advice.

I've got some fluid leakage (more accurately, seepage) under the Super M and wouldn't mind replacing the pump gasket (already replaced the oil pan gasket). The shop manual I have describes using some sort of fabricated 'T' device made out of 5/8" steel to aid in the removal of the hydraulic pump. Are those necessary? Any advice (i.e. helpful hints) on how replacing the gasket is done would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I don't think it would hurt. The best one I saw was a piece of stock of the appropriate size to engage the pump coupler welded to a junk 1/2" socket. The guy said the impact would get it off w/o having to jam something in the gears to lock them up.

I took two of the bolts out, Threaded 2 pieces of all-thread and nuts into the two opposite holes on the belly pump of my M and backed the nuts off one at a time to lower it down. Worked fine. If you have a floor jack, the all thread can be used as a guide, and speed the process up.
I seem to recall that the pump input shaft seal is more leakage prone than the gasket is. I know mine has a little leak that needs addressing...

Good luck,
Ben

AS the others said threaded rod works well, epically when combined with a jack. The hardest part is getting the coupler back into place. The best method iv found for this was putting the coupler into place on the counter shaft, then wrapping tape around them to hold it while installing the pump. Iv tried grease etc to hold it but the tap method works best for me.

I use a floor jack to lower the pump out of my H and to also reinstall the pump. Works well, just be sure to steady it on the jack.
