Super M hydraulic fluid

I just drained the fluid out of my Super M lift all and put 6 qts. of straight 30W oil in per the operators manual. Then, elsewhere on this site, I saw the following..."A common problem arises when you get ready to fill the hydraulic oil and transmission case. The manuals provide outdated specifications and nomenclature for the oil used in this casing. Since the oil is shared for both the hydraulics and the transmission and differential it will have special properties of being designed to lubricate gears and bearings while being non-foaming and lighter than gear oil." What gives? Am I going to need to drain this oil and put regular hydraulic fluid in? I"ve had the tractor for a couple of years and this is the first fluid change (other than crankcase oil) that I have done.

Here did you add this oil?rear/trans and hydraulics are totaly separate.Do you have a 'magpump' or 'bellypump?read your book again!

your ok,you dont need to waste your oil. the hyds. are a separate unit on those tractors.book has to be referring to a unit like 560 with pump in trans.housing.

Ditto, 560 and up is shared. BUT, I still run hydraulic fluid in my hydraulics. 30 SAE was the best technology they had back then. They actually sold a jug of stuff you could dump in to make the 30 SAE more like hyd oil.
FYI - If you ever buy something with a TA you should be running hy-tran in the rear end of those tractors. The book will say 90 wt, but IH has said that doesn't flow good enough to lubricate a TA.
