I"m planning a trip near Madison, WI and I"m wondering if any of you have visited the IH archives at the University. Is it fairly accessable, is there decent parking facilities, etc. Interested in what you guys can tell me about it. Thanks. Ph: 515-275-4254

Bob, The Histerical Society is located one block north of University Avenue at the intersection of N. Park St. and Langdon on campus, parking should be available one block north in the Helen C. White library lot w/meters or ~1.5 blocks walk at the Lake St.(your best bet and you park and pay when you exit, others you plug a meter) ramp to the SE. If you are lucky, as I was a couple weeks ago, across the street to the NE is the Memorial Union lot. Bring your quarters. Cross the street to the north and in the Union get Babcock ice cream - made on campus - excellent. Plaza Pub, 319 N. Henry for Plaza burgers that have their special sour cream sauce is worth the walk especially after sittin' at the Histerical 8^) Society viewing IH stuff. They couldn't find some archived material for me but sent me an e/m and then copied and mailed to me the 340/460/560 spec. manual, which was nice of them. Some nice college co-eds to eyeball also in the area.

The only thing I would add is that it is an archive, not a museum. You must go with a purpose in mind. You can't just go and "take a tour."

Call or e-mail ahead to make sure one of the collection folks can find what you are looking for ahead of time. The folks usually working the desk are not necessaraly tractor experts.
