350U Governor

I had an intake manifold leak on my gas 350U. I pulled the manifold and carb tonight to replace the gasket. When putting it back together I was trying to get the governer linkage back into the carb and get the manifold back on the studs. I got everything back together with out forcing anything, but I am concerned that I got the govenor shaft back on the carb correctly. Is there any way to tell? It looks like the shaft had a pin on it that fit in a slot in the carb linkage, but it looked like you could also put it together with the pin not in the slot. Any way to tell for sure that it is right before I button everything back up?
Thanks

The tractor will tell you when you start it. Probably little or no throttle control. It is hard to see when putting together, but the rod or pin as you call it has to go into the slot.

Will it go together with the pin not in the slot? Thanks for your help. You have answered quite a few of my 350U questions.
Thanks
Mike

Yes it will go in without the pin in the slot, you really can't tell the difference by feel, you have to look closely. I don't have a 350, but the engine is a larger version of the letter series.
